SCP 1499 – The Gas Mask

SCP 1499 – The Gas Mask

Item #: SCP 1499  –  Object Class: Safe

Description of the subject: SCP 1499 is a Soviet GP-5 gas mask. Testing on the subject suggests that the object retains its original functionality. The anomalous effects of the subject only activate when a human places the mask on their head. The effects do not take place with animals or with anything other than humans. Approximately one second after the person secures the mask on their head, the subject vanished from view.

All persons undergoing testing have not reported feelings of motion at all during that time. During testing, researchers discovered a couple of things. First of all, two-way radios remain capable of receiving and transmitting, in spite of the test subject disappearing. Upon wearing SCP 1499, test subjects report seeing completely different surroundings than those they were in before.

The place seems to be barren and inhospitable, with tall black towers all around. Subjects also sighted certain entities in the landscape. These entities are tall, nude humanoids with dark skin and have a thick coat of an unknown viscous substance. Some say that these entities also have large amounts of eyes covering their bodies. Upon removing the mask from their head, subjects reappear in the same location they were in previously.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP 1499 is to remain inside a locked box, guarded by two agents at all times. In the beginning, all testing involving the subject required the authorization of Level 4 personnel. After a review, they discontinued the testing indefinitely. All test subjects had to wear a small full-duplex two-way radio underneath SCP 1499. In this way, they could keep in contact with the researchers at all times.

They do not allow any testing with D-Class personnel due to the high risk of losing SCP 1499. Should the subjects be in any danger, they must remove the mask immediately.
