The Emerald Tablets of Thoth

The Emerald Tablets of Thoth

The Emerald Tablets of Thoth are some tablets made out of green stone. On them, you can find all of the secrets of the universe. The source of the tablets remains unclear, hence all the legends surrounding it. The most common one claims that someone found the tablet in a tomb under the statue of Hermes in Tyana. Another legend suggests that it was the third son of Adam and Eve, Seth, who originally wrote it.

As you know, Thoth was the scribe of the gods. He also possessed a whole deal of knowledge which he decided to pass on. Supposedly, the tablets are made out of a substance created through alchemic transmutation. They can resist to all elements, acids and corrosion. They have a fixed atomic structure, therefore violating the laws of ionization.

Upon them you can find characters in the Ancient Atlantean language. These characters respond to the thought waves of the reader and release their wisdom. The tablets stick together due to the golden hoops which bind them together. Some say that the Emerald Tablets were written in Greek, originally. However, some report that the document no longer exists, if it ever did.

In spite of this, the text rose to fame quickly and lots of people know about it now.  For instance, an early version of the Emerald Tablet also appeared in a work called the Kitab Ustuqus al-Uss al-Thani. In the 12 th century A.D., Hugo von Santalla translated the Emerald Tabled into Latin.

The Emerald Tablet would become one of the pillars of Western alchemy. In Medieval and Western alchemy, it became a highly influential text, and it still is to this day. In addition to translations of it, researchers even wrote numerous commentaries about it. For instance, researchers discovered a translation of in among Isaac Newton’s papers. This translation is currently in King’s College Library in Cambridge University.
